Welcome
Take a breath, maybe two.
Let your breath steady you and help you find this present moment.
Welcome to The Heron’s Perspective. A collection of reflections drawn from nature, paired with actionable tools to support you during overwhelming times.
There are 12 pillars designed to give you agency, clarity and hope when you feel overwhelmed. Allow your intuition to help you choose where to start and open the rest at a pace that supports you.
Why the heron?
The heron is both a friend and a neighbor to me.
Living on the Chesapeake Bay I am often graced with their presence and the reminder of wisdom and strength they offer. Just look at those slender, bamboo-like legs holding up such a substantial body.
Every time I see one, I’m reminded that we don’t need massive pillars to support us — only our own two legs.
When life gets difficult, it’s natural to look outward for answers and reassurance. The heron reminds us of something essential:
We already have what we need.
My hope is that this space gently reflects that truth back to you.
A note about me
I’m Sara Corckran — wife, mother of three, mindset coach, and author of Grit and Grace.
My work is about supporting people through overwhelming seasons — especially when they feel exhausted, overwhelmed, stuck replaying the past, or bracing for what’s ahead — and helping them come back to themselves with more steadiness and self-trust.
My own path into this work was shaped by adversity. My husband and later my sister-in-law were diagnosed with cancer while I was still young and unprepared to navigate such uncertainty. Years later, I faced my own breast cancer diagnosis.
This series grew from that lived understanding.
How to use this series
All of the pillars live together here so you can move through them in your own way.
Some readers move through them all at once. Others spend time with a single pillar, letting it settle and integrate. Many return to a specific reflection when they feel anxious, overwhelmed, or caught in rumination.
You may read one.
You may read many.
You may come back again and again.
This space is meant to meet you where you are.
What you’ll find inside
Each pillar includes:
a reflection from the heron’s perspective
a quote to anchor the theme
grounded insight drawn from lived experience and psychology
gentle, actionable steps
questions for inquiry and self-listening
Some questions will land immediately.
Others may need time.
Stay curious. Even resistance has something to teach us.
The Pillars
I hope these tools serve you as well as they have served me. This is not a one and done experience. You may need to return to them again and again. I certainly did.
These pillars are here as a guide when life feels dark, hard, or uncertain. Keep going. You already have what you need inside you.
This work was shaped through experience, reflection, and study, and I offer it here freely, from the heart.
You’re welcome to share the resource with anyone who may need it. If you’d like to incorporate these reflections or practices into your own work, please reach out so we can do that with care and permission.
Be gentle with yourself as you move through them.
